New Heights Sweep NYC Summer Classic 16s

BRONX, NY - It's one thing for a 16U team to win a 16U championship. It's another thing for a 15U team to win a 16U championship.
That's exactly what the New Heights (2013) team did on Saturday at the NYC Summer Classic at Fordham University as both New Heights teams won the Gold and Platinum brackets.

New Heights (2013) was led by their rising sophomore PG Terrence Samuel, "who just does it all," according to head coach Kimani Young. New Heights (2013) would win the 16U Gold bracket championship, 52-47, with Samuel taking MVP honors.
The young Bronx, NY based team took out two New York teams, the MetroHawks (2013) and Team Buckets, in earning the opportunity to face the Long Island Lightning (2013) team in the championship round.
The dynamic duo of Samuel (16 points) and 6-foot-7 forward from Pathways HS, Jordan Washington (10 points), would prove to be too much for a competitive L.I. Lightning team that featured 6-foot-6 Bronx native, Jason Boswell (13 points)from St. Patrick's and 5-foot-8 Joshua Doughty (11 points) from Mt. Vernon HS.
New Heights-Blue Crunches L.I. Lightning-Blue
While both New Heights-Blue and Long Island Lightning-Blue shared the same tag at the end of their name in the tournament bracket listing, the Lightning (2012) team would be the only one sharing the emotion, blue, as New Heights handed the Lightning a 63-45 beating in the Platinum bracket to secure a sweep of the 16U Gold and Platinum bracket by the host team.
Rising sophomores, 6-foot-3 Clyde Smith from Hotchkiss HS and 6-foot-5, Joel Angus from Bishop Loughlin HS would drop 17 points apiece as NH set the tone early and often.
While the Lightning fought back with 6-foot- 5 Kwanique Martin (12 points), a South Shore HS rising junior and Nkereuwem Okoro leading the charge. But without the services of Daniel Dingle who's playing in the AAU Nationals in Orlando, the Long Island team could not fill the void.
New Heights-Blue would also receive additional firepower from 6-foot-8 Brooklyn native, Jimmy Hall (11 points) from St. Anthony's (NJ), which put the game out of reach for the Lightning.
