Mt. Vernon Knights Shred Scarsdale Raiders

On Thursday, the Mt. Vernon Knights, fresh off of their come from behind victory over New Jersey's Paterson Catholic during the Nike Super Six tournament, seemed to be still riding the winning wave as they marched into the Scarsdale Raiders gym.
With a balanced attack from both the inside and the outside, Mt. Vernon shredded the foul troubled Scarsdale Raiders 79 - 71

In the first quarter, the score was tied at nine with 1:07 left when freshman guard Jabarie Hinds stole the ball from Scarsdale to get the foul and go to the line. Hinds hit the free throw breaking the tie bringing Mt. Vernon to a one-point lead 10 - 9. As the clock ran down Mount Vernon's Vaughn Allen got the rebound hitting the shot ending the first with a 3-point lead for the Knights 12 - 9.
Second quarter began with a foul on Mount Vernon, and Scarsdale 6'1" senior guard Lucas Radov went to the line for a free throw making the score 10-12. Hinds made a pass to Jones for a lay-up shot making it a 5-point lead for Knights. Scarsdale answered right back, with a three pointer from 5'10" senior guard and co-captain Evan Livingston. Sean Harris found an open spot to hit a three pointer to give Mt. Vernon a 5-point lead. Junior small forward Sherrod Wright drove into the paint to score an and-1, hitting both free throws to increase the lead to eight for the Knights. Jordan Lessane was controlled the point guard position well for Mt. Vernon passing inside to West Virginia-bound Kevin Jones but the Raiders countered with a pass from 6'2" junior Jack Detmer to 6'5" forward David Zaitz. Radov hits a three pointer for Scarsdale and when the half would end, Scarsdale would only be down by six points, 32 – 26.
The third quarter began with Hinds hitting a jumper, and the momentum beginning to build for Mt. Vernon. Wright would nail back-to back buckets pushing the lead to ten. Livingston would hit on a drive play to the basket and Zaitz would score back-to back points for Scarsdale. Detmer would makes a 3 pointer from outside and the score was suddenly 44 – 37..Kevin Jones, who had been sitting on the bench due to some foul trouble, return and immediately made an impact, grabbing rebounds and scoring on the inside. Jones efforts paid off and the quarter ended with Mt. Vernon having their largest lead 57 – 43.
The fourth quarter began with Lessane coming back in the game. While Scarsdale did hit some shots in the fourth quarter, it belonged to the Knights holding on to a 7-point lead. Scarsdale tried to fight back with a three pointer but the foul troubled hampered them.
Kevin Jones was the game high scorer with 24 points. The Knights win was accomplished with the excellent backcourt help of Jabarie Hinds contributing 15 points and his teammate Sherrod Wright adding 11 points. Scarsdale's high scorers for the night were top scorer David Zaitz with 21 points and Lucas Radov with 17 points.
