Mount Vernon muscles Gauchos

The best game of the day on Sunday at iS8/Nike Spring H.S. Classic was no doubt Mount Vernon versus the senior Gauchos Orange. It was a tight game from tip-off till the fourth quarter buzzer, leaving Mount Vernon the Victor at 98-95.
The last day of regular season play, both teams were tied for first place in their bracket before this game. Now Mount Vernon has achieved the higher seed, and definitely will have an easier path through the playoffs.
Sherrod Wright led the way for Mount Vernon with 39 points. Kevin Jones also put in 27 to help them along.
The first quarter belonged to the Gauchos. Jordan Theodore scored most of his 26 points in this quarter. He was doing everything. Going to the rack, hitting jumpers, and getting steals, but Mount Vernon was on their heels the whole time.
Then Wright decided it was time for his input hitting several three-pointers in the second quarter to put Mount Vernon up 59-56 at the half.
Jones had an ugly one hand dunk over all who stood in the paint towards the end of the third. Mount Vernon was dominant most of that quarter also. However, they forgot that the Gauchos had an All-American on their team in Kemba Walker. In the last two minutes of the third Walker had two steals, hit two 3's, a few dishes, and a hit one free-throw to tie the game at 73 point apiece. Walker would finish with 27 points.
Theodore cut to the lane to convert a lay-up with 40 seconds left to put the Gauchos up 93-95. Kevin Jones came right back and hit a three pointer with 25 seconds making the game 96-95.
Mount Vernon then called a timeout to set their defense which seemed to be a winning factor for them. The Gauchos got off two shots, one after a Mount Vernon rebound and turnover, but were unable to convert. Mount Vernon did not loose the second rebound but threw the ball down court as Wright added one more jam to make the final score 98-95.
