JAMAICA, NY - Lincoln is back where they used to be often. Westinghouse and Lincoln played each other in a PSAL semifinal game. They played each other fairly close for most of the game, but Lincoln did what they strive to do in every game and they played lock down defense, especially in the third quarter. Lincoln held Westinghouse to 7 points in the period on their way to a 59-50 victory.

The win sends Lincoln to Madison Square Garden where they will play for a championship. One of the main contributors to the victory was junior Klay Brown. Brown finished with 14 points, but actually was late getting the game. Brown revealed he had transportation trouble, that his ride got mixed up, but he was mentally focused despite that.

“I know I had to perform, my team needed me” Brown said.

Brown was all over the floor and made an impact where ever he was. His coach, Dwayne Morton, was appreciative of the game Brown had, how he did all the important things that help the team win games.

“Our young kids don’t understand that.” Morton said regarding the less glamorous parts of the game. “A lot of kids look at the stats. The things he did today – block shots – change shots – rebounds – steals…he was unbelievable”

Brown helped Lincoln hold Westinghouse to 7 points in the third quarter, which also happened to be the quarter Lincoln began to pull away. The Railsplitters did it with defense, which is the way they like to play. Morton is actually pleased with the way his team has played defense this season.

“All year we’ve been playing team defense, which I’ve been happy [about]. I don’t think our offense was there sometimes, but our defense probably was always there” Morton said.

Senior guard Caheim Brown, who was the leading scorer for Lincoln with 17 points, said that Lincoln has a simple game plan. He explained what kind of team Lincoln was.

“Defense is basically our main priority. We work hard on defense, and it gives easy baskets on offense. We’re a fast break team, so we get after it on defense and offense just comes naturally” Caheim Brown said.

Westinghouse guard Gerald Williams finished with a team high 13 points. Akeem Tate finished with 11 points for the Warriors.

The next team that Lincoln plays will be in Madison Square Garden. They will play Jefferson for the fourth time this year. They have beaten them twice in a row and neither game was close.

One game Jefferson didn’t play their starters, but the other game Jefferson did. It wasn’t close. Will the game be close on Saturday when they play Jefferson? Only time will tell. And that time is 12 noon on Saturday.
