Knights Punish Huguenots

On Thursday, the New Rochelle Huguenots came out to battle the Mount Vernon Knights for a final show down, to once again prove who is the best in Westchester, NY. The Knights verses the Huguenots, are oldest rivals in Westchester and a favorite with fans.
The Knights did not disappoint a sold-out crowd in Mount Vernon, NY and blew out the Huguenots 88-66 to the roar of cheering fans.

In the first quarter, West Virginia-bound Kevin Jones and Huguenots forward Eddie Egbuta tipped off. New Rochelle quickly put up the first 2 points on the scoreboard. Yet, these first two points were not a pre-curser of how the evening would turn out for New Rochelle. Mt. Vernon's , Ketema Brooks quickly made his way pass the Huguenots, putting in his signature mid-range shot. During a fast break, Jones was able to hit a 3-pointer over the heads of New Rochelle, quickly bringing up the score for the Knights. The first quarter belong to Knights with the Huguenots receiving many fouls calls throughout. Knight's junior guard, Vaughn Allen, finished off the first quarter, stripping the ball from New Rochelle to score the last two points closing out the first quarter, Knights 21-12.
In the second quarter, Huguenots forward Travis Wright fought back hard getting inside the basket making a shot from the corner over the Knights. Mt. Vernon lead until Huguenots forward Eddie Egbuta made a pass to teammate Markell Rice tying up the score at 27. This tied did not last for long with Jones hitting a nice corner shot. The Huguenots would not let go without a fight. Forward Antoine Mason quickly made a pass to his teammate, Alex Armiento to score for New Rochelle. As the quarter ended, Markell Rice drove to the basket pass Jones for the last two points of the quarter but still leaving the Knights up by 11.
In the opening of the third quarter, Rice hit a deep 3- pointer on Sherrod Wright, quickly answered back with a 3-pointer for the Knights. Mt. Vernon press the issue once more immediately took the lead. Wright then elevated for a two-handed slam-dunk then punctuated it with a 3-pointer.
By the fourth quarter, the Huguenots saw hope for a turn around fading away. Sherrod Wright showed no mercy stuffing down yet another, two-hand dunk on New Rochelle heads at the buzzer.
The high scorers were Sherrod Wright with 30 points and Kevin Jones 23 points. For New Rochelle, the high scorer was senior guard Markell Rice with 13.
