Last weekend's major snowstorm across the northeast forced the postponement of a large part of the Funsport Junior Pros playoffs. There were no surprises among the first-round games that were played, with the higher seeds all advancing to the quarters.

The closest contest was the 49-44 decision by Brooklyn Ballers-A over Riverside-8 that went down to the final minutes despite the fact the Ballers had a huge 54-14 rebounding edge. In fact, the Ballers' Doudmy St. Hilaire (IS 62, Brooklyn) outrebounded Riverside by himself with his double-double of 29 points and 21 rebounds.
Riverside got two early three's from Zach Boscar (Birch Wathen Lenox, NYC) to hold a 14-11 lead after one before St. Hilaire ignited a 9-0 Ballers spurt with several inside scores; a three-pointer by Devyn Wilson (St. Francis, Brooklyn) then gave the Ballers its biggest lead at 25-17 with 2:21 left in the half. Riverside recovered and stayed within striking distance behind 15 points from Daquan Ervin (MS 113, Brooklyn) and 13 from Boscar, but missed free throws down the stretch doomed the Riverside upset bid.
Brooklyn Ballers-A, the Pool C winners now at 6-0, will next meet Team Underrated, which also used a significant rebounding margin (40-14) to oust Gauchos-Harris 48-33. Chris Davis (Scholars Academy, Queens) had a near triple-double (15 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists) to carry Underrated (5-1) while Khalik Howe (IS 131, Bronx) netted a game-high 19 points for the Gauchos.
Starrett City started their playoff drive with another dominating performance by Isaiah Whitehead (IS 288, Brooklyn), while scoring the first 13 points and coasting to an 81-39 rout of Lightning-McNeil. Whitehead had a breakaway dunk in that opening run, an over-the-rim block in the second quarter and 18 points in the third quarter alone, while finishing with 29 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Anthony Williams (Seth Low JHS, Brooklyn) recorded 12 assists for the unbeaten Pool A winners (6-0) while Chancellor Ellis (Allen AME, Queens) added 16 points and Thomas Holley (MS 216, Queens) grabbed 15 rebounds. Starrett now faces The City, which advanced with a forfeit win after Brooklyn Ballers-B was not able to comply with the Junior Pros academic requirements.
The NJ Pirates, the Pool D winners, also reached the quarterfinals at 6-0 with a 57-49 triumph over St. Mark's behind Mike Silverthorn (St. Mary's, Hackettstown NJ) with 17 points and Jonathan Hilliman (Franklin Middle, Somerset NJ) with 15 points and 12 boards. Altine King (Bay Academy, Brooklyn) and Danny Finkelstein (Bay Academy) each netted three three-pointers for St. Mark's, ending with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Next up for the Pirates is Gauchos-Tommie (5-1), the Pool B winners who received 17 points and 10 rebounds from Shawn Jones (IS 131, Bronx) in a 48-22 romp over Bk Ballers-Stompers.
