The Deer Park Falcons have been powered by Darien Jenkins ‘17 for the past two year but with the senior moving on to play at LIU-Post it's time for other players to step up and become the engine that make the team go. One such player will be 5’11” combo guard Brett Talbert ‘18.
Falcon’s head coach John McCaffrey describes as a combo guard who can play on or off the ball. “He’s a three-year varsity starter, league champ and in the elite eight twice.”
Talbert has already shown leadership qualities being the team captain since 2016. Additionally, Talbert has been an extremely effective guard averaging 14.3 ppg, shooting 46% and 37% from three-point range. He also shoots 80% from the charity stripe and averages 3.1 assists per game, 2.1 steals per game and has a 1.7 to 1 assist to turnover ratio.
“He’s a big shot make,” said McCaffrey. [He’s] made huge shots for us playing off of Darien.”
While Talbert performance on the court is admirable, so too is his performance off the court with a 90.1 overall average. “Brett’s a high character kid,” Coach McCaffrey emphasized.
Talbert describes himself as a tough guard and McCaffrey agrees say he’s an elite on the ball defender. With the spotlight on Talbert this season, the junior is hoping that his recruitment will also shine.
