Iona Prep Fires Head Coach

Is winning everything? On Thursday, the Iona Prep Gaels head boys’ basketball coach Vic Quirolo learned the answer, the hard way after being dismissed from the program. This week, the Gaels (15-13) loss to Bishop Loughlin in the CHSAA city quarterfinals and abruptly, Quirolo was relieved of his head coaching duties. Since being fired, coach Quirolo has not commented on his dismissal.

Just last year, Quirolo was inducted into the CHSAA Hall of Fame. He has served as the Gaels head boys basketball coach since 1998. During his tenure, he led the JV team to back to back City Championships in 1996 and 1997. As a first-year head varsity coach he led the Gaels to their first City Championship. The Gaels moved up to Class AA in 2013 winning their division and the CHSAA Championship in 2015.

Iona prep basketball program has produce several division one players, Matt Ryan, Ty Jerome and Tom Capuano to name a few. Former star players Jerome and Ryan both took to twitter to react to the news.
