Holiday Tourny Winners Losers 12/28

New York teams were split in their successes and failures during various tournaments throughout the nations.

The #2 (NYC) ranked Boys & Girls Kangaroos (Brooklyn, NY) scored an opening round 51-39 victory over Clark County (Winchester, KY) in the 30th Annual Beach Ball Classic.
Boys & Girls (7-1) built a 17 point lead at 43-26 with 10:15 to play in the second half. Clark County (7-3) then went on a 13-2 run to close the gap to 45-39 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Vinny Zollo with 2:56 remaining.
It would be the last points scored by the Cardinals as they committed two turnovers and missed three shots in the closing minutes. Jeff Neverson (9 points) dominated the boards with 11 rebounds
Malik Nichols' 15 points led Boys & Girls followed by Leroy "Truck" Fludd with 12 points and Mike Taylor with 10 points. Zollo paced the Clarke County with 20 points and nine rebounds.
The Kangaroos advance to face the GAC Spartans on Wednesday at 3:30.
In other Action:
#6 (NYC) Thomas Jefferson would be down by 5 points at the half and 11 points early in the third quarter but pull out a 68-61 win in the STOP-DWI Classic against Mesa HS (AZ). The Orange Wave advance to play Campbell (GA) in the semifinals.
#5 (Westch.) New Rochelle lost its first game, 54-51 to the John Carroll School @ STOP-DWI Classic in Binghamton, NY
#10 (NYC) ranked Holy Cross would not fare well in the STOP-DWI Classic as well against Imhotep Charter School (PA). Down 7 points at the half, the Knights took the lead by 2 to start the fourth. Imhotep however controlled the final quarter and won 53-44. They will play New Rochelle on Wednesday at 1pm.
#1 (L.I.) Long Island Lutheran would suffer their first loss of the season, down the stretch a tough loss against Plymouth Whitemarsh (PA) team, 62-54.
#2 (L.I.) ranked St. Mary's would advance to the finals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Elmira, NY defeating Bishop Kearny, 65-45.
#1 (NYC) ranked Abraham Lincoln will participate in the Planet Athlete National Invitational in East Orange, NJ. On Thursday they will play Paramus Catholic and St. Benedicts on Friday. On the bubble team, Paul Robeson and are also participating.
#5 (NYC) Cardozo will be playing unranked Bishop Loughlin in the Brooklyn Basketball Classic at NYC College of Technology on Thursday
