Several days after announcing she was leaving North Carolina, one of the most prolific scoring guards in New York State history has found a new hardwood home. Following an injury-plagued sophomore season with the Tar Heels, Paulina Paris announced on Monday that she will prolong her career at the University of Arizona.
Paris, a deadly shooter who averaged 24-points per game at Saddle River Day School. She was a national recruit ranked in the Top-30 coming out of high school. A high IQ guard with a purity of vision as a creator and a stout on-ball defensive presence. The two time Rockland County Player of the Year during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Albertus Magnus HS in Bardonia, N.Y., Paris saw immediate meaningful minutes playing for the Tar Heels. As the lone true freshman two seasons ago, Paris logged 20.2 minutes per game and four games in which she started. She showed promise with a 22-point game (6-for-12 3FG) during a win over Clemson as a freshman. She also showed her defensive aptitude during her freshman season, with blanketing pressure on the ball.
Paris averaged 5.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists during the 2023-24 campaign at UNC. She authored her best performance of the season with 16 points (6-for-8 FG), three steals, three assists, and four rebounds in 26 minutes of action during a 96-36 pummeling of Western Carolina during the second week of December.
With her decision to head West, Paris is the first commitment of the off-season for Arizona head coach Adia Barnes. The Wildcats recently scored a commitment from another New York native in 2024, Long Island Lutheran point guard Lauryn Swann.
Paris is the daughter of Bryan Paris, who is known for his professional career in Puerto Rico. After his playing career concluded, Paris represented numerous professional athletes in Puerto Rico and beyond as an agent. Paris will provide a veteran presence for an Arizona team which went 18-16 overall (8-10 in the Pac-12). Following a 69-59 victory over No. 11 Auburn during the Regional III First Four in Portland, The Wildcats culminated their post-season with a 74-69 loss to Syracuse in the NCAA tournament's Regional III first round.
