EYAC High School Classic Action: 5/19/16

OCEANSIDE, NY – Thursday at Marie Curie MHS was exciting as six teams battled in the EYAC High School Classic. NYCHoops.net was on hand to catch the action, giving us an early glimpse as to the upcoming high school season.

Cardozo Takes Down HS for Construction, 76-63

Dozo came out on all cylinders and steamrolled over Construction from the tip-off with a 21-0 run spearheaded by Jade Tse ’18 and Marcus Hammond ‘18 The RedHawks was facing an uphill battle even as Adonis Fishburne ’17 ended Cardozo’s streak with 11:45 still left in the opening half.

In a 43-20 hole at the beginning of the second half, HS of Construction made a push to close the gap led by Tariq Troutman ‘17 and Legacy Wallace ’18. With 8:50 left to play, the RedHawks were only down, 62-50 but Dejavaughn Utley ’18 pushed back and kept Construction at bay for the win.

Utley led Cardozo with 21 points. Tse added 19 points all in the first half, including five 3-pointers. Troutman paced Construction with 21 points all in the second half, which also included five three-pointers.

Springfield Gardens Edges John Bowne, 56-52

With offense from Alexandro Vasquez ‘18 leading the way, Bowne was in front of Springfield, 27-22 as he matched the output of his Springfield counterpart Hegal Augustine ‘17.

Augustine was relentless and with 15 minutes left in the final quarter, gave Springfield its first lead which they would never relinquish. Christian Hinckson ‘18 fought back but Tyreke Guthrie countered to help seal the deal.

Augustine scored 23 points for Springfield with Guthrie contributing 11 points. Alexandro was the high man for Bowne with 14 points.

Eagle Academy Wallops Bayside, 52-32

From start to finish, Eagle Academy for Young Men led Bayside, a team consisting of players from multiple schools. In a 17-point deficit at the half, Bayside would never recover due to a porous defense. 8th grader Rayshawn Niblack ‘20 paced Eagle with 18 points while Marc Combs (Holy Cross ’16) was high man for Bayside with 16 points.
