Exclusive Video: Jones Finally Signs 4-star power forward Kevin Jones of Mount Vernon High School met with the media, friends, family and teammates today as he made his announcement at 2:35pm EST. "I'd just like to tell everybody that I'm signing to West Virginia," he said shyly, "this is a great day for me." Jones is ranked 24th among power forwards in the '08 class.
When asked about his decision Jones replied, "I had an idea it was West Virginia, and I went with my gut feelings. After a visit to West Virginia campus I liked the coach and got along with the players there."
This decision began with seven schools: West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Indiana, U Mass, Seton Hall, Rutgers, St. John's and Ohio State. Then the list narrowed to West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Indiana, and U Mass before Kevin Jones announced his final choice.
Today's decision was not an easy one for Kevin who has been probing over his choice since ninth grade.
"Sometimes I wanted to give up and just pick a school," he said of the recruitment process. Big brother Gerald helped with the choice, "Kevin and I thought about his decision all last night."
Coach Bob Cimmino didn't play a large role in the commitment, "Gerald was the point man and went on a lot of college visits with his big brother." Cimmino took time in his remarks before the announcement to praise Jones for being both a student and an athlete. He knows that Jones will succeed because of his efforts on and off the court.
Today Kevin Jones' decision finally rested on his shoulders and gave him the chance to make one of the most important decisions of his high school career.
At 5 o'clock today Jones went to practice focusing on winning the championship for Mount Vernon High school.
