Kelly, who played high school basketball at Rice in Manhattan and was a top recruit in 2006 will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Wildcats. He will have to sit out one season.
Regarding the transfer, Kelly stated, "I feel I will have a better opportunity and get more out of my college experience if I go somewhere else.
Kelly, who had little opportunity to show off his talents at the lower end of the rotation, will be transferring to Kansas State which is losing Michael Beasley to and Bill Walker to the NBA draft.
As one Rice graduate leaves UConn another Rice graduate enters as Kemba Walker will be starting his college career at UConn in the fall.
