The award was presented by one of the Top 15 players in WNBA history, former NY Liberty star Teresa Weatherspoon and his image was displayed prominently on the Madison Square Garden Trinitron. "It was a very special moment for me and my family and the young ladies that I coach," Coach Williams told NYCHoops.net.
Over his decade and a half of coach girl's basketball, Williams has been responsible for developing some of the top talent coming out of New York. Successful on the grassroots circuit, he was responsible for cultivating such student-athletes as Bria Hartley (Washington Mystics), Nadirah McKenith (Minnesota Lynx), Doris Ortega (Puerto Rico) and Kadedra Simmons (Seton Hall) as well as current division I recruits Kiah Gillespie and Mikaiya Moore (Copiague '16).
As an assistant coach and now as a head coach since 2012 for Loughlin, Coach Williams has turned the Lady Lions into a consistent CHSAA high school playoff contender.
While success on the court is important, Williams said he sees the bigger picture. "I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to give back," he said humbly. "I thank God for the opportunity to play in this game called life."
