CHSAA B/Q Semifinal Blowouts
MIDDLE VILLAGE, NY - The CHSAA B/Q Sectional Semifinals consisted of two different types of blowouts.

The first was an aerial assault that was designed to inflict the maximum amount of damage possible while the latter was more of a surgical strike by the numbers. The end result is a collision between two teams who feel they deserve a shot at the chip.
Lions Eat the Stanners, 85-49
From the onset, Bishop Loughlin was in attack mode and didn't let up until end of the fourth quarter. The Lions seemed determined to make Archbishop Molloy eat their words.
"They were talking smack," said Khadeen Carrington of the Molloy players. "They said we were overrated so this game was personal," he said.
According to Carrington and his teammate, Mike Williams, the Stanners were making reference to the fact that they beat Loughlin during both regular season meetings. Lions head coach Ed Gonzalez said he used Molloy's comments as fuel. "I told the guys those [regular season] games were just scrimmages. This is the real deal."
Carrington and Williams indeed made it personal and took it out on Molloy from the perimeter. Chaz Watler, Marko Kozul and C.J. Davis tried to keep pace with Loughlin's dynamic duo but the two combined for 24 first half points and almost outscored the entire Molloy squad by themselves.
Up 39-25 to begin the third quarter, point guard Jordan Nanton and Javian Delacruz helped to extend the Loughlin lead to 22 points midway through the quarter. The Lions then slowed the Stanners down using a 2-3 zone and pushed their lead to 61-35 as Williams drained an NBA range trey as the third quarter ended.
Coach Gonzalez didn't relent and urged his team to attack on every possession. The Lions were more than happy to oblige. The Loughlin lead swoll up to 30 points with 6 ½ minute still left to play as the game descended into nothing more than a lay-up drill.
With 2:35 remaining, Molloy was almost down by 40. Only then did Gonzalez unplug the life support and sub out his starters. "I don't condone violence or anything like that," said Gonzalez. "When people talk about you like that you take it out on them on the court."
Williams finished with 26 points with Carrington adding 24 points. Watler led Molloy with 12 points with Kozul contributing 11 points.
Christ the King nails Holy Cross, 83-61
Quite a few college coaches were in the building with many there to see Christ the King's go-to-guy, Jon Severe. The senior sharpshooter did not disappoint as he led the Royals past Holy Cross and into a championship match-up against Bishop Loughlin.
Severe was efficient, scoring 22 points to go with 4 rebounds. He only had to play 2 ½ quarters though as Christ the King methodically dissected Holy Cross during the first half of play. Ahead by 18-11 to begin the second quarter, the Royals blew the game open early as the Knights of Holy Cross seemed tentative from the very beginning.
With an offensive barrage from Severe along with points in transition from Isaiah Cosbert and Andre Walker, the Royals walked into the locker room at the half up, 42-24.
Holy Cross's deficit continued to grow as Christ the King was almost flawless in their execution. 4:38 remained in the third quarter and the Royals were comfortably ahead by 23. The Knights threw in the white flag early and the majority of the final quarter was spent trying to get the entire Royals bench on the score board.
Severe led the way for the Royals followed by Walker who added 12 points. Josh Wallace and Ryan Wilson were the only Knights in double digits with 13 points and 10 points respectively.
Bishop Loughlin will face Christ the King in the championship on Friday at 7:00pm.
