The Stepinac boys' program has been incredible since we started covering basketball for NYCHoops. They set a high standard and have been littered with tremendous players, college stars, and NBA players. Today, their senior 4-Star 6’1” PG Danny Carbuccia (Archbishop Stepinac HS, NY ’25) committed to UMass just a few minutes ago.
Carbuccia has the potential to win his third straight CHSAA title and become the winningest player in Crusader history. He has been an impact player since the second he got on campus and is a serious name in the 2025 class. We have seen him named to the All-CHSAA team multiple times. He has been terrific in the playoffs and stepped up against major competition all year long.
This is a monster addition for UMass as Carbuccia’s becomes their first signing of the 2025 class. He is the type of point guard who will attract other talented pieces, and he even has international experience as well. His effort for the PSA Cardinals during several off seasons has paid off dividends. The four star has one more season before he gets to campus, and it should be a big one.
We love fitness, especially with the coaching staff. He was a prospect who was ranked extremely high and then fell under the radar a bit before Stepinac’s big season last year. Carbuccia may have taken a back seat at times to other stars on the team but do not misunderstand he had stretches where he flat out dominated the game. His on-ball defense is great, IQ off the charts, he is lethal in P&R plus is automatic if you leave him open. This moves addition by UMass could help them get back to the tournament.
