Unfortunately, what happens on the mean streets of NYC sometime affects what happens on the high school basketball court.

One of New York City's promising student-athletes' goals have been put on hold by an unfortunate situation. On Sunday, NYCHoops.net learned that Brooklyn Collegiate's guard Jahlil Tripp was shot.
According to Lion's Head Coach Jake Edwards, Tripp was shot in his leg on Friday in Brooklyn, NY. "[He was shot] in his calf but no damage. They think [the bullet] bounced off the ground and hit him."
Edward said the accident was the result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. "[It's] a rare incident from things going on in the neighborhood," he said.
The accident occurs just as the Brooklyn Collegiate Lions began their high school basketball season on a positive note with a win over Boys & Girls HS. Coach Edwards said he believes Tripp will be back before the end of the season. "Hopefully, January but he has a follow-up appointment [with his doctor] in two weeks."
While the injury put a damper on the both the Brooklyn PSAL Class AA team and Tripp individually, Coach Edwards said that the junior guard is still being a good team leader. "He told the team to step up until he returns and he will be back stronger than he was."
