Bay Shore head coach Ken Parham is well aware of the thrashing Chris Mauldin, Ashanti DePass and the Baldwin Bruins gave highly touted St. Dominic at their own tournament earlier this month.

With the Bay Shore Marauders facing Baldwin for the final game of the Nassau-Suffolk Challenge at Bay Shore HS, a plan was devised to ensure Baldwin would not spoil two homecomings in two weeks as Bay Shore notched a diligent 57-48 win.
"Coming in, we knew Chris Mauldin is good off the dribble, he can shoot and he makes everyone else better", said Coach Parham. "Ashanti DePass is a lights out shooter and they play at a very fast pace so we knew we had to limit their touches and slow them down".
Slowing down Baldwin would typically be an oxymoron, but in this particular game it was understatement, as Bay Shore found themselves up 10-9 at the end of a slow paced first quarter. Bay Shore's rebounding and defensive effort helped to force Baldwin turnovers as the second quarter progressed. The trademark run and gun Baldwin offense did appear late in the first half, as DePass and sophomore Aaron Greene sparked an 8-1 run that kept the Bruins in the game -albeit with an unusually low 21 points to Bay Shore's 24- at halftime.
While the pace of the third quarter did accelerate, Bay Shore maintained control as senior point guard Barry Ingram directed a 16-6 run with the scoring being distributed throughout the team. With Mauldin only connecting on one field goal in the first half, he eventually found his groove in the third via his mid-range and outside shooting but it was not enough to bring Baldwin within striking distance as they entered the fourth quarter facing a 13 point deficit. However, when Greene pitched in with two three pointers and Mauldin continued to warm up mid-way through the fourth quarter, Bay Shore's lead shrunk to four points.
"I knew we had a little advantage in terms of size and they had an advantage on the perimeter", reflected Coach Parham. "So we had to limit them to only one shot and get every rebound".
Bay Shore then regained control by dominating the glass, befriending the shot clock and extending the four point lead from the free throw line. In the fourth quarter, Bay Shore didn't record a single field goal but managed to revive the three possession game with under a minute to go en route to a 57-48 victory.
Mauldin and Greene were two of only three Baldwin players to score a field goal in the second half, with Mauldin's 17 being the team high. Ingram also netted a team high 17 for Bay Shore (along with four steals and four assists), while Jordan Allen and Malik Jackson led Bay Shore in the rebounding department with nine each.
