Shakena Richardson is on fire. While her team lost in the Quarterfinals of the Nike Rose Classic on Saturday in Brooklyn, NY, she's still a winner.

Only a junior, the 5-foot-4 point guard is one of the most sought after players in the country.

Playing in the highly competive Nike Rose Classic was a new experience for Richardson. "This tournament was more physical. I got knocked around quite a bit," says Richardson, who says that high prospect Kadija Simmons (New Heights) gave her the most comp. "I enjoyed playing against her." Richardson played well and earned the 'Best Newcomer Award' after her last game.

According to Anton Marchand, who runs the Nike Rose Classic, "Richardson is tough point guard who has a good outside game but also goes strong to the hole." Displaying excellent court vision, she came into the tournament with no fear, according to Marchand. "She ran right threw some of the top players here. She's legit."

Coached by her father, Frankie Richardson, and playing with the Neptune H.S. Scarlet Flyers varsity team since she was a freshman, Richardson has garnered an incredible 25+ high major offers according to Coach Richardson.

"In the BIG EAST, she's gotten offers from every school except for UConn," says Coach Richardson, who says her most recent offer came from Illinois.

Ironically, Richardson's dream school originally was Tennessee, but they are one of the few schools that didn't make an offer. "They weren't showin' me any love," says Richardson.

As far as where she'd like to play, Richardson says, now, it doesn't matter, but her Coach says, "As a father, I want her to play close by so I can come see her play, but it's her decision."

Richardson says that she'd like to make her choice by the end of her junior year and is already preparing herself to play on the next level. "I gotta work on my left hand." Her father interjects, saying, "...and a knock down jumpshot."

Richardson has one more tournament to play before her school season begins. "She's playing at Rebounds in about two weeks," says Coach Richardson.
