November 1, 2009 The Nike Rose Classic has been dominated by Exodus NYC for the last four years but for the first time, it will be 'totally' dominated by Exodus. This season, the 48 team field has been completely eliminated and whittled down to two Exodus teams. Here are the recaps from Saturday's games. Exodus Elite Take Down Falcons, 54-47 In the first semifinal match up, Lady Falcons played Exodus Elite and it was cleared the neither team was going to go quietly. Both teams played up tempo and deep into the second quarter the score was knotted at 21 apiece. Boston College bound Shayra Brown (17 points) kept the Falcon's close but second quarter buckets by Lashay Taft (10 points), a senior from City HS in Baltimore, gave Exodus a 30-26 lead at the half. Down the stretch the Falcons closed the gap early and the score was still neck and neck throughout the third. That is until providence bound Alicia Cropper (14 points) gave Exodus a 4 point advantage in the fourth quarter as she displayed excellent body control on her drives to the basket. While the Falcon made a push late, Exodus would hold serve and advance to the chip. Exodus NYC Tops New Heights, 65-52 The second semifinal game featured the defending champion, Exodus Elite. A team which touts five D1 commits would seem to pose a problem but the New Heights team dismissed that fact and jumped to a quick 8-2 lead. Aggressive traps and a relentless attempts to penetrate seemed to put the Exodus squad out of sorts as UConn bound Bria Hartley (14 points) was visibly annoyed with the in-your-face defense of Sherylana Harris (3 points). Hartley did, however, manage to score a tough bucket to cut the New Heights lead to eight going into the second. Exodus began to step it up in the second quarter as Syracuse commit, Jelleah Sidney (9 points) began to drop buckets off NH turnover and Hartley hit a floater to give the defending champs their first lead. That lead would be short lived as Desire' Simmons (15 points) responded for NH who would take a 23-21 lead at the half. Jennifer O'Neil (11 points) entered the game to start the second half and the Kentucky bound point guard had an immediate impact tying the score quickly from the charity strip. Once again a Hartley bucket would allow Exodus to seize the lead. Sade Jackson (10 points) began to weigh in offensively for New Heights but towards the end of the third, Exodus managed to increase their lead to 11 points as other NH players fell silent until 29 seconds left in the third. Down 8 points to start the fourth New Heights needed buckets and stops. Cori Coleman (9 points), a junior at Murry Bertrum answered the call and cut the Exodus lead to points early in the forth. New Heights was a formidable opponent, cutting the lead to 5, but the high major talent of the Exodus team was simply too much. ![]() Go to NYC Hoops for all the late breaking NYC basketball news and rankings.
