Sooners Building New Map Pursuing Mavety
It's been quite some time since Oklahoma went into New York and reeled in a football prospect but it's also fairly clear that Bill Bedenbaugh isn't afraid to send the Sooners into unfamiliar territory to bring talent aboard. And so he wasted little time throwing a crimson hat in the ring with Garden City (N.Y.) Nassau C.C. offensive tackle Chad Mavety.
Interestingly Mavety says that part of Bedenbaugh's interest in bringing him to Norman was born long before he got to Nassau.
"Coach Bedenbaugh, shot me a message told me that he took the Oklahoma job and that he wanted to recruit me to Oklahoma - he called me a day later and told me that Oklahoma was a good fit and that I had an offer there," Mavety said.
"We've actually been in regular contact, he recruited me out of high school, I didn't qualify in high school so I came up to Nassau."
